Antibiotic Resistance : In the early 20th century, Alexander Fleming discovered the first true antibiotic as he discovered Penicillin in 1928. The invention of antibiotic changed the world of medicine. Today, they are used from China to Peru to treat infections caused by bacteria. <\/strong><\/h3>\n

Umpteen of prescriptions are written for antibiotics each year on this earth. It\u2019s a cardinal medicine for any kind of bacterial diseases not only for humans but also for the animal in today\u2019s world. But the lamenting truth is, most of the bacteria are starting to acclimatize to the drugs and are becoming harder to eradicate. That’s called Antibiotic Resistance. Right now, this Antibiotic resistance is a sword of Damocles to global health, food security, and development. Antibiotic resistance can affect anyone, of any age, in any country.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

To be overboard, Antibiotic resistance occurs when bacteria change in response to the use of these medicines. Now-a-days this occurs naturally, and this resistance is growing by leaps and bounds by the wrong-use of antibiotics, as well as poor infection prevention and control. Where antibiotics can be bought for human or animal treatment without a prescription, the growth of resistance is made worse. <\/span><\/p>\n

In the same way, sans proper and standard treatment guidelines, antibiotics are repeatedly over-prescribed by compounders, drugstore workers and veterinarians and over-used by the public. Besides that, in recent studies organized by Bangalore-based Ramaiah Advance Testing Laboratory, unleashed that Antibiotic residue is present in most of the packaged milk and milk-based products. Moreover, various reports also reveal that Antibiotic residue is also found in the domestic animals like in the chicken, mutton and in fishes. <\/span><\/p>\n

This is because of the boundless antibiotic usage in domestic animals to prevent illness and also to fatten them up. Fruits and vegetables are not out of the list. Various pesticides and agricultural medicines contain antibiotics and those are often used in farming. Now the harsh reality is, a man can use his acumen and not overuse antibiotic medicines in his daily life, but how can he be scot-free from the antibiotics which he is taking by his food?\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The people of this earth immediately need to transform the way it uses antibiotics. Even if new treatment methods are developed, sans change in practice of frequent use of antibiotic medicines, antibiotic resistance will become a spell disaster. Without imperative action, we are heading for a post-antibiotic era, in which general infections and minor injuries can be a doom\u2019s\u00a0 day. Only silver lining in this wobbly condition is that, harnessing antibiotic resistance is a top priority for World Health Assembly (WHO).<\/span><\/p>\n

A \u201cGlobal action plan on antimicrobial resistance\u201d including plan of proper antibiotic usage, was endorsed at WHO in May 2015. The global action plan aims to ensure prevention and treatment of infectious diseases with safe and effective medicines. WHO has been programming multiple initiatives to address this inimical resistance –<\/span><\/p>\n
