UNDERSTANDING NATURE AND CHANGES IN NATURE-ENVIRONMENTAL ETHICS

UNDERSTANDING NATURE:  Environmental Ethics is that sub-field of philosophy which seeks to articulate reasons why non-human “nature”

usually writ large to include collective entities like species and ecosystems has value that cannot be reduced solely to economic value.

Environmental ethics is a branch of applied philosophy that studies the conceptual foundations of environmental values as well as more concrete issues surrounding societal attitudes, actions, and policies to protect and sustain biodiversity and ecological systems.

We review the three leading, but conflicting, approaches to ethical theory in environmental ethics: consequentialism, deontology, and virtue theory.
