Long ago, there was Holika, sister of devil Hiranyakashyap, who tried to burn Prahlad (son of her brother) in the big fire by taking him in her lap. Prahlad was true devotee of God who was saved from fire. However Holika was burnt and changed into ashes. From then, Hindu people celebrate the victory of goodness over evil every year as festival of Holi with Holika Dahan one day before Holi.
On this festival, people forget their enmity, bitterness, and hatred. They come together to renew their friendship and bond of relationship. This festival creates love and friendship. As per the tradition, few sweets and special food are prepared for this festival. People rub gulal on each other’s forehead by wishing them ‘Happy Holi’.
