What is Heart?

The heart is a muscular pumping organ situated in the thoracic area of the body. The heart’s apex, or bottom end, is tipped to the left, placing about two-thirds of the organ on the left side of the body and the remaining third on the right. The aorta, vena cava, pulmonary trunk, and pulmonary veins are all connected to the top of the heart, also referred to as the heart’s base. The heart moves blood around the body, feeding cells with nutrients and oxygen while eliminating waste, which makes it essential for maintaining life.

What is sudden cardiac arrest, heart attacks and heart failures?

Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA), Heart Attack, and Heart Failure are three separate cardiac disease types with different causes & and symptoms.

  1. Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA): – SCA is a sudden, unexpected loss of heart function, typically caused by an electrical malfunction in the heart, resulting in the heart’s inability to pump blood effectively. It frequently results in unconsciousness and the cessation of the heartbeat and breathing. SCA can result in death within minutes if prompt treatment is not provided, such as CPR and defibrillation.
  2. Heart Attack (Myocardial Infarction): – When a coronary artery is blocked or has restricted blood flow, it can cause a heart attack and cause death or damage to a portion of the heart muscle. Shortness of breath, chest pain, and occasionally pain radiating to the arms, neck, or jaw are all common signs of a heart attack. Blood vessel issues, particularly those involving the coronary arteries, are a factor in heart attacks.
  3. Heart Failure: Heart failure is a chronic condition in which the heart’s capacity to pump blood is impaired. This impairment is typically the result of a heart attack, excessive blood pressure, or other cardiac conditions. It may cause symptoms like exhaustion, breathlessness, fluid retention, and trouble going about your everyday business. Heart failure is a chronic illness that may need continuing medical care and dietary adjustments.
