Haryana CM announces creating ‘Oxi-van’ in Karnal

  • Chief Minister of Haryana, Manohar Lal Khattar, announced to create of 80 acres of ‘Oxi-van’ (a forest) in the Karnal district.
  • It was announced on the occasion of World Environment Day on June 5, 2021.
  • Oxi-van will consist of 10 types of forests.
  • On the occasion, highlighting the importance of trees and encouraging promotion, protection, planting of trees Haryana Government launched four important schemes

Pran Vayu Devta Pension Scheme:

Under this scheme, a pension amount of Rs 2500will be provided in name of Pran Vayu Devta to maintain trees above 75 years.

This pension would increase each year on the line of old age Samman pension..

Panchayati Plantation in Haryana:

Under this initiative, the plantation will be done in name of Panchvati across the villages in Haryana.

It will promote the process of getting natural oxygen from trees. Agroforestry will also be promoted on vacant land under the initiative.

Thus, it will increase the income of Panchayats in rural areas.

Oxy-Van in Karnal:

  • Oxy Forest was launched on Forest Department land in Mughal Canal, Karnal.
  • Panchavati, trees of Bel, Amla, Ashoka, Banyan and Peepal were planted.
  • It will be built on 80 acres area.

Oxy-Van in Panchkula:

It will be established in Bir Ghaggar on the area of one hundred acres in a bid to create Mother Nature’s green lungs, for residents of Panchkula, to get in fresh oxygen. Rs One crore has been sanctioned for this initiative.

·         According to annual survey of World’s most liveable cities 2021, Covid-19 pandemic has shaken up rankings of livable cities.

In Report

  • Auckland is the most liveable city in 2021 because of its successful approach in containing pandemic.
  • which is followed by Osaka & Tokyo in Japan, Adelaide in Australia and Wellington in New Zealand.
  • All these countries had swift response to pandemic.
  • According to the report, metropolises in Australia, Japan and New Zealand leaping ahead of metropolises in Europe.
  • Life remains most difficult in Damascus because of Syria’s ongoing civil war.
  • Most notable rise was by Honolulu, Hawaii in United States.
  • It came to 14th position by moved up 46 places.
  • Ranking improved because of its containment measures and fast vaccination programme.

European cities fared poorly

  • Vienna, which was world’s most liveable city during 2018-20, fell to 12th
  • Eight of the top ten biggest falls in rankings goes to European cities.
  • Port city of Hamburg in northern Germany fell by 34 places to 47thposition in the list.
  • European cities performed poorly because of increasing stress on hospital resources which resulted in a “deteriorated healthcare score”.

Government approves construction of 3.61 lakh houses under PMAY-U

  • During 54thmeeting of Central Sanctioning and Monitoring Committee (CSMS), central government has approval 708 proposals for construction of 3.61 lakh houses under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana- Urban (PMAY-U).
  • Meeting was attended by 13 States and UTs.
  • All these houses will be constructed on line of ‘Beneficiary led Construction’ and ‘Affordable Housing in Partnership Verticals’.
  • Total investment under this mission is Rs. 7.35 lakh crores out of which centre is assisting Rs. 1.81 lakh crores.
  • So far, 96067 crores of funds have been released.

How many houses have been constructed so far?

  • Total number of sanctioned houses under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Urban is 112.4 lakh.
  • 5 lakh houses have been grounded for construction and
  • 31 lakhs have been completed or delivered so far.

Lighthouse Projects

  • During the meeting, Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs laid emphasis on 6 Light House Projects (LHPs).
  • Foundation stones for these lighthouses were laid by PM Narendra Modi in January 2021.
  • These are being constructed at Indore, Lucknow, Rajkot, Ranchi, Agartala and Chennai.

‘PMAY-U Awards 2021- 100 Days Challenge’ was launched to recognize and celebrate outstanding performance & contribution by Urban Local Bodies (ULBs), States and UTs for successfully implementing the mission.

Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Urban

World Bank’s Global Economic Prospects Update

According to the Global Economic Prospects Update released by World Bank, global economy is expected to expand 5.6 per cent in 2021. This would be the fastest post-recession pace in 80 years because of strong rebounds from a few major economies.

Key Findings of prospects

  • As per latest edition, many emerging markets & developing economies are struggling with COVID-19 pandemic and its aftermath.
  • There are signs of global recovery but covid-19 pandemic continues to inflict poverty and inequality among people in developing countries.
  • Per capita income losses will not be unwound by 2022 for two-thirds of emerging market and developing economies.
  • Among low-income economies, effects of pandemic have reversed poverty reduction gains and aggravated insecurity.
  • US growth is projected to 6.8 percent in 2021 because of large-scale fiscal support and easing of pandemic restrictions.
  • Growth in other developed economies is also gaining pace but with a lesser extent.
  • China will rebound to 8.5 percent because of release of pent-up demand.
  • Emerging market and developing economies will expand to 6 per cent in 2021 as a result of higher demand and elevated commodity prices.
  • Recovery in many countries is delayed because of resurgence of COVID-19 cases and lagging vaccination progress.
  • Rebound in group of developing countries, other than China, is expected to be 4.4 percent

What does report recommends?

  • Report highlights, globally coordinated efforts are need of the hour to accelerate vaccine distribution and debt relief specially among low-income countries.
  • After health crisis eases, policymakers should address pandemic’s lasting effects and take steps to bring in green, resilient and inclusive growth.

CESL-Ladakh sign pact to make Ladakh Carbon-neutral

  • State-owned Convergence Energy Services Ltd (CESL) has inked a pact with Ladakh administration to make Union Territory of Ladakh carbon-neutral.

About MoU

  • CESL which is a wholly owned subsidiary of Energy Efficiency Services Ltd (EESL) signed memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Administration of Ladakh to make it clean and green.
  • Under it, several clean energy and energy-efficiency programmes will be implemented.

What are those projects?

  • CESL will take up projects like solar mini- and micro-grid solutions, energy storage-based solutions, energy-efficient lighting, efficient cooking stoves and electric mobility solutions.
  • It will develop clean solutions for home appliances, electric heating, pump sets and cooking sets for very cold temperatures in Ladakh.
  • It will also focus on EV ecosystem like EC charging infrastructure utilizing renewable sources of power.

Indian Navy inducted three ALH MK III advanced light helicopters

  • Union government has appointed Anup Chandra Pandey, as Election Commissioner.

  • He has been appointed to position after retirement of former Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sunil Arora.
