Due to high population density, people experience problems like unaffordable housing, improper waste disposal, water scarcity, flooding due to blocked water ditches, pollution, sickness and diseases due to improper hygiene, food and nutritional insecurity and urban poverty which makes better lifestyle in urban cities far from reality.

To tackle such issues in a developing country like ours, we need major shift in urban planning and governance from municipality level to legislative level. Introduction of urban land-use planning (ULP) and urban and peri-urban agriculture (UPA) is an urgency for sustainable development.

UPA is also recognised as a major contributor for food security. Green Infrastructure (GI) helps in combating pollution and climate mitigation with additional health and recreational benefits.

It is important to take such planning models and prioritise estimation of waste management capacity, building infrastructure for urban living. Action for sustainable living is a must to avoid urban crisis across the country.

Sustainable living is the practice of making conscious lifestyle choices that reduce a person’s impact on the environment. Individuals who embrace sustainable living philosophies aim to reduce their carbon footprint and conserve Earth’s resources.

When we talk about living in a sustainable way we are generally talking about developing ways to live that don’t harm the environment, or that cause the lowest possible impact on it. Living sustainably means that people try to manage their needs in a way that will allow future generations to do the same.
