Since march 2019, world was shut down in a war against an enemy not even visible to a naked eye. Without a doubt covid-19 pandemic was one of the worst of it’s kind. Different parts of the world had a different story completely unseen and unforgettable for sure. SARS-CoV-2 or corona virus, a virus who’s origin will be a topic of debate for years to come. Was it a conspiracy or fault in a lab ? A question which will be raised in near future. But now, every country is vaccinating their citizen everyday, and yes even India is about to start vaccination very soon. So this is it ? Is the worst over ?
CORONA VIRUS
There is not even a single “sane” soul who doesn’t know what corona virus is. No, it is not a virus brought by some leader to get rid of protestors or to get an excuse, it’s a genuine virus who has caused nothing but misery around the world. People have lost loved ones, jobs, homes and a whole year of their lives in lockdown. An infectious disease causes severe acute respiratory syndrome, similar to SARS.
Covid-19 affects the patient and causes mild respiratory illness to chronic respiratory diseases and cardiovascular disease.
First case, identified in Wuhan, China in December 2019, which has spread worldwide causing fatality of millions.
INDIA AND CORONA VIRUS
First started with 24hr lockdown on 21st march 2019 to 21 days lockdown to months. Prime Minister Narendra Modi took a bold move to shut down the country for months and with that came much criticism, but the basic idea was to avoid social contact and stop massive transmission. Due to lack of discipline, attempts made by the government weren’t as successful as they could’ve been. Cases like Tablighi jamaat and Hayat hotel parties did nothing but worsened the situation. Today, India has lost more than 1.5 lakh people with millions affected. From suffering patients in hospital to overflowing dead bodies at the morgue, these some haunting images when can only imagine. Being largely, densely populated country, center faced many problems in containing the virus, a failed attempt, and the great migration was the final nail in coffin.
VACCINE FOR CURE
Countries around the world are racing to prepare and manufacture a 100% effective vaccine but medical associations have given go ahead to vaccine used for emergency purposes only. Doses from Pfizer and BioNTech’s shot, moderna’s vaccine, aztrazeneca’s are some vaccines which were approved by the government in different countries to use for emergency purpose. People in United States are already being vaccinated among people like Mike Pence, Vice President of USA. So are people in Europe, Russia and soon in India.
SOON IN INDIA
India has prepared for the biggest rollout of vaccine in history with Drug controller general of India formally approving covaxin by Bharat Biotech and covishield by serum institute of India.
An Indian varient of AZD1222, developed by pune based SII through a licence from Astrazeneca and Oxford is a non-replicating viral vector vaccine.
Bharat biotech partnered with Washington university school of medicine for a novel intranasal corona virus vaccine (BBV154) uses an inactivated SARS-CoV 2 virus
Bharat biotech has successfully enrolled 25,800 volunteers for phase 3 trials of covaxin.
India has the potential to manufacture 60% of the world’s vaccine and in the time like this, all eyes are the power house. Center has promised that soon covishield and covaxin will be available.
IS THE WORST OVER ?
Government declared that the process of vaccination will be done on front line workers as they are at higher risk of being infected. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced vaccination drive, debates have started, questions are being raised.
In systematic approach of vaccination we are looking at chaos which actually never left.
Vaccines are in the final stage of testing nad preparing for distribution but debates and accusations will be never-ending.
So maybe yes, the worst is over, rollout is around the corner and finally world could actually start but what lies ahead is predictable but not avoidable.
